BRAZOS VALLEY, Tex. (KBTX) - With temperature now flirting with triple digits, the Better Business Bureau is offering tips to stay cool.
Bill McGuire with the BBB sat down with KBTX's Noelle Bellow to list some of the best ways to manage the heat.
First, maintenance is key. You should have an A/C company service your unit regularly and change filters often.
Secondly, keep the air flowing and check your batteries regularly. Clogged filters can reduce air flow and cause health issues. Install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and check the batteries every three months.
Next, stay safe in severe weather. Teach yourself and your family how to operate the circuit breaker controls to shut off the HVAC system during power outages.
You should also upgrade your home features and systems. Programmable thermostats reduce energy use, save money and prolong the life of your system. A/C units have a lifespan of 10 years.
