Of course, 9-1-1 and the infrastructure that supports it has changed significantly since 1968--and even since 1988, when it came Brazos County.
"It was just a brick phone that we answered, right there in the agency," said Anita Pitt, Brazos Valley Council of Governments 9-1-1 program manager.
The service is critical to emergency response, it is hard to imagine life without it.
Recently, new developments like being about to "text to 9-1-1" have changed the game in emergency response as well.
"The response we've gotten to text to 9-1-1 since 2015 makes it obvious that we should have been doing this long ago," Pitt said.
As for the future? Pitt says technology is ever-changing, and she looks forward to continuing to find ways to better serve Brazos County residents in need.
