Brazos Co. epidemiologist: Report about flu vaccine efficacy is "not valid" for U.S.

A report from the New England Journal of Medicine has been circulating in the headlines, telling of a 10 percent efficacy of the flu vaccine in Australia. Often, these reports link the Australia numbers with the flu vaccine efficacy in the United States.

The Brazos County Health Department says there is no connection.

"There is no validity to that estimation," said Yao Akpalu, the Brazos County Health Department's epidemiologist. "That report originated in Australia... It does not reflect or predict what happens in the United States."
