Local trainer shares 3 things to do now to reach your 2017 fitness goals

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX)- The new year is the time many Americans start to diet and exercise, but there's a few things you can begin doing now before it starts.

KBTX invited local personal trainer and fitness expert Christopher Alejandro to First News at Four to offer suggestions and advice.

Alejandro says you should spend time now preparing for your new fitness and nutrition goals.

Step one: Determine where you want to workout. There's plenty of options out there. You can workout at home, in a group setting, join a gym or hire a personal trainer. Many trainers and gyms offer discounts this time of the year.

Step two: Look for motivation on your phone. Alejandro says you should search for supporting apps available on your phone that can help motivate you to reach your goals.

Step three: Set short-term goals. Instead of aiming to lose 50 pounds, says Alejandro, you should first set a goal to lose five pounds - and then work to build on that success.
