COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX)- Rock Prairie Road is back open following a major water leak Wednesday afternoon.
Crews were called to the intersection of Rock Prairie and Rio Grande. Officials said the leak could affect water service for parts of College Station.
Crews said they were digging in the area, checking on a leak when the pipeline gave out. Some utility customers were without service temporarily. However, water service was not cut to the The College Station Medical Center.
“There was a water line leak that was noticed through the park this morning and so the water department came out and was investigating that. And as we started looking into it, it blew on us as part of that investigation," said Alan Gibbs, College Station Assistant Director of Water Services.
Gibbs said major water breaks like this are rare for the city.
"We’re really fortunate that were blessed to have excellent infrastructure here so when we have a major outage like this it is sort of a surprise, but we are working to get it corrected," he said.
Utility crews said they are setting up equipment at the nearby park to make repairs.
