Man arrested for alleged assault on College Station police officer

COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX)- A College Station man was arrested Monday afternoon after he assaulted a police officer, according to a news release.

College Station police say at 1:19 p.m. they stopped Randall Ford, 52, in the 2200 block of Rio Grand Boulevard.

According to the report from police, Ford was acting suspicious and that's why he was stopped and questioned by officers.

During the investigation, police learned Ford had outstanding warrants for his arrest. Officers say while taking him into custody, Ford tried to break away and flee.

Police say as they attempted to restrain him, Ford struck one of the officers with a closed fist.

Ford was taken into custody and is now facing an assault charge on a public servant.

The officer was treated at the scene for his injury and returned to duty.
