BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX) - On a typical morning at Jesse's Taqueria in Bryan, you can expect two things: great food and a hello from the man himself, Jesse Ocana.
A McAllen Texas native, Ocana learned how to master the kitchen from his father. That influence is still present today.
We got to be there watching him do all his things and dad how do you do this and dad how do you do that, so we carried that with our recipes here and always make them with a lot of enthusiasm and we make sure everything is up to perfection, plus we use a lot of tender love and care
With nearly 40 years in the restaurant business under his belt, Ocana started Jesse's in the fall of 2012. In just 4 short years, its become a local institution and even garnering statewide recognition from the likes of Texas Monthly.
What's the best part of all of it? The people.
Its bonding with my clientele. Really just making the people say thank you Jesse I enjoyed it. Its just you know the service you can offer them and them saying to you, this is good. That is my whole motivation for this type of business.
And its those same customers that keep him going
It just motivates you so much to see a plate come out and someone says, oh my god, this is so good. It just makes you want to do a home run again.
The restaurant business has taken Ocana across the state and the country, but Bryan College Station is home Its just so family oriented, it made me feel like I was back home. And I just wanted to come back and get back into it with the people I left behind.
And it was just like magic, just coming back, just being here really in truly
Jesse's is open six days a week for breakfast & lunch and is located at 3310-A E. 29th St., Bryan, TX 77802
