NAVASOTA, Tex. (KBTX) - As the city of Navasota grows, so does the need for healthcare. To help with that, the city is getting a new healthcare clinic.
Baylor Scott and White is set to build a new clinic in Navasota at the Highway 6 loop and Stacey Street.
"It will be about 5000 square feet with 9 exam rooms and a treatment room. It will start with one provider but it will soon grow to three," said Jason Jennings, president of the College Station region for Baylor Scott and White Health.
The city of Navasota has already approved the conditional use permit for the property.
"The last part is their site plan approval and that's going to be up for action this Thursday. Their building plans are already approved as well. They're pretty much good to go after Thursday," said Lupe Diosdado.
The city said with all the growth in the area it will be good to have the new place.
"We already have a couple of clinics in town but it just enhances those services for the citizens," said Brad Stafford, Navasota City Manager.
Baylor Scott and White says they chose the spot to help serve people better.
"We're about convenience. We want things especially when we're hurt or sick close by so having this clinic will do that," said Jennings.
Mary Ritchey has lived off of Ruth Court in Navasota for 30 years. Currently she has to travel more than 30 minutes just to get basic care.
"I have health issues so I go to several different doctors," said Ritchey. She said she feels lucky that a new Baylor Scott and White clinic will be built just in her backyard.
"It'd be great. There's a lot of people in the area that goes to Scott and White and it'd be a good asset," said Ritchey.
They plan to break ground in January 2018. They want to have the clinic ready by the summer.
