HUNTSVILLE, Tex. (KBTX) - A nursing school at Huntsville Memorial Hospital will be closing its doors.

The hospital says its Joe G. Davis School of Vocational Nursing will shut down in January after its current class of students graduate from the program.

Huntsville Memorial says the school can no longer compete with other community colleges and universities in Texas.

The hospital also says the program does not receive federal funding.

In Texas, there are only 88 approved LVN programs in the state, including Blinn College, the Lone Star College System and Navarro College.

Staff will be able to apply for other positions within Huntsville Memorial Hospital.
