Red Cross offers disaster shelter training class

BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX) - The American Red Cross is offering a shelter fundamentals class this weekend.

Anyone interested in volunteering during an emergency is welcome to attend the free class.

Attendees will learn how to open, operate, and close a shelter during a disaster.

"In anticipation for disaster season, it's very important for us to be ready and to be able to respond quickly," said Cyndi Dahl with Red Cross. "That way we're just more effective. We can assist more people in a timely manner. It's just empowering our community to be able to respond and take care of their friends, families, neighbors."

The class is Saturday, May 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Bryan.

Lunch will be provided.

To sign up, call the Brazos Valley office at (979)776-8279 or email tina.chase2@redcross.org.
