COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX) - Construction has begun for phase one of widening Royder Road.
The road is closed off from Greens Prairie Trail to Backwater Drive.
The road is currently two lanes. It will soon become three lanes, including a two-way left turn lanes, along with bike lanes and sidewalks.
A traffic signal will also be added at Greens Prairie Trail and Royder.
The project is estimated to take nine months.
Phase two will continue the three lane roadway section from phase one to the north. It will end at FM 2154 (Wellborn Road).
The second phase of the project has started design. The city of College Station anticipates construction to start late 2018.
