SOMERVILLE, Tex. (KBTX) - The Somerville Independent School District superintendent is leaving to take a new job. Charles Camarillo was Somerville's superintendent for 13 years. He will present a letter of resignation to the district's Board of Trustees on May 30th.

Camarillo is leaving to take the same job with the Poteet Independent School District. Poteet is Camarillo's hometown.

Under Camarillo, Somerville approved a $12.6 million bond in 2016. That bond went toward building a new elementary school, which is nearly finished.

Camarillo said he will greatly miss the staff and students he had the chance to meet and work with over his 13 years at the district. He also said he will be back for the grand opening of the new elementary school.

Somerville ISD board members are currently looking for an interim superintendent.
