The Wright Response: May 18, 2017

BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX) - Friday is a big day of celebration for KBTX as we observe our 60th Anniversary.

There is so much history inside these walls, a building which has been added to through the years, but was constructed in 1956 along a dirt road more or less in the country, at this same location.

Friday on Brazos Valley this Morning, I’ll join with Noelle Bellow and Max Crawford for hour one rom 5-6 am, then at 6pm, we’ll welcome my former co-anchor Polly Bell and weather with Roger Barry. Then, as in the past, we will welcome back three former regulars on Brazos Valley This Morning, and catch up with what they are doing. One of the first people I interviewed was Dr. Carolyn Nobles. She will be here, as will Dr. Doug Welch, our weekend gardener, and Dr. Jim Mazurkiewicz…and together, we’ll take that old trip down memory lane – all starting tomorrow morning.

On News 3 at Noon, Joe Brown, Crystal Galny and Brenda Sims will be on, with a special names and faces feature highlighting the longest-continuous employee of KBTX.

Then at 5pm, we welcome back Russ Roberts from the late 80’s, early 90s, and Barbara Smith, Weather by Rodney Harris, and Sports with Jon Heitdke. Finally, at 6pm, Anchors Jeff Braun and Sherry Williams will be joined by Troy Kimmel on weather and Jeff McShan with sports.

We’re looking forward to catching up with all these who have a very special place in the KBTX history books.

Believe me, I have plenty of e-mails to share from people upset about the “liberal slant” of KBTX, which – there isn’t one, or other issues, but today – is about celebration. In fact, it is a THROWBACK THURSDAY! In preparing for our 60th, the archives have yielded some really great vintage footage. Let’s go back to a KBTX News Open from the decade of the 80’s – September 1985!

(see video above for news open)

…and with a very young Jeff Braun, Debbie Ramsey, Kevin Brewer and Jeff McShan.

We’ve been humbled by our partnership with you for all these 60-years, and here’s to sharing many more together.

Be in touch anytime – we’ll see you Friday morning as the celebration starts!

Your opinion always matters to this family of KBTX News 3.
