ROBERTSTON COUNTY, Tex. (KBTX) - UPDATE: The man struck by a tractor-trailer on Highway 6 has died, according to DPS Trooper Jimmy Morgan.

That man has been identified as James Fachorn, 57, of Hearne.

An investigation into this incident is still ongoing.

ORIGINAL STORY: According to DPS, a tractor-trailer struck a pedestrian on Highway 6 in Robertson County Wednesday morning.

Around 6:38 a.m., a person driving a truck in the southbound lanes of Highway 6 noticed a pedestrian walking across the highway and swerved to avoid them.

State troopers say moments later, a Knife River Corporation tractor-trailer heading northbound on Highway 6 struck the pedestrian.

According to Knife River Corp., the driver did not know they had hit a person, they originally thought it was a deer. The driver did however pull off at the safest, nearest spot available and contacted authorities.

"This is a tragic situation, our thoughts and prayers are with the person who was hit," said Tony Spilde of Knife River Corp.

The pedestrian was transported to CHI St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan.
We have not yet received word on their status.
