All indications are that Tropical Storm Franklin will continue to organize/strengthen as it moves further west in the southern Gulf of Mexico, but the storm will likely run out of ocean before it becomes a major hurricane.
Models forecast the storm to strengthen to category 1 strength before making landfall later Thursday. With the Wednesday morning tropical update from the National Hurricane Center, maximum sustained winds are just a few mph below hurricane status.
Hurricane Warnings have been issued along the coast of Mexico.
Should Franklin strengthen into a hurricane, it will be the first hurricane of the 2017 Atlantic season.
