Weekend Gardener: Landscape water conservation

Timm Hartmann with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension joins us for Weekend Gardener to talk to us about conserving landscape water.

For more information, you can visit their website at http://agrilifeextension.tamu.edu/.

In urban areas, about 25 percent of water use is attributable to landscape irrigation, and approximately 50 percent of irrigation water applied is lost due to inefficiencies and improper operation.

Earth-Kind Landscaping uses research-proven techniques to provide maximum garden and landscape enjoyment while preserving and protecting the environment. The program encourages water conservation, reduction of fertilizer and pesticide use, landscaping for energy conservation, and reduction of landscape wastes entering landfills. Earth-Kind Landscaping also focuses on using native and adaptive plant species to provide habitat and reduce water requirements, and minimizing the use of potentially harmful fertilizers and pesticides.
