BRYAN, Tex. (KBTX) - Back-to-school shopping can add up for families. The State of Texas is helping shoppers save money by making certain items tax-free this weekend.
From Friday to Sunday, Texans can take advantage of tax free back-to-school shopping.
Bryan Target team leader Jordan Williams said they expect large crowds.
"This weekend is a week later for tax free than last year. Getting closer to school actually starting so we think that's going to bring in quite a bit of traffic," said Williams.
It's more than school items that are tax-free.
"It's tax free weekend for all clothing. It's not just kid's apparel, it's not just school supplies. It's also all of shoes and diapers," said Williams.
While many may be dorm shopping during the weekend, things like accessories and home goods are not on the list to be tax-exempt.
Becky LeMoine said she is taking advantage of the weekend for back-to-school outfits.
"We're kind of holding off on school supplies right now until we get our lists from the school, but we got a lot of clothes today," said LeMoine.
LeMoine said she enjoys these types of weekends since small items start to add up.
"It definitely helps the situation, especially when you have three kids," said LeMoine.
There is a limit on the exemption.
"It's tax free up to $100, so it's a great deal. Then after $100 the tax does go back on. It's been busy all week but we expect it to be much busier through the weekend," said Williams.
