HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros have acquired right-handed pitcher Gerrit Cole from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for right-handed pitcher Michael Feliz, infielder Colin Moran, right-handed pitcher Joe Musgrove and outfield prospect Jason Martin. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow.

Cole, 27, was the Pirates Opening Day starter last season and went 12-12 with a 4.26 ERA (96ER/203IP) and 196 strikeouts in 33 starts. Among National League starters, he finished his year ranking tied for first in starts (33), third in innings pitched (203) and 10th in strikeouts. Cole, who was the No. 1 overall pick by the Pirates in the 2011 draft, had his best season in 2015 when he was a National League All-Star and finished fourth in the Cy Young voting after going 19-8 with a 2.60 ERA (60ER/208IP) in 32 starts. Cole has pitched in parts of five seasons (2013-17) with Pittsburgh, posting a 59-42 record and a 3.50 ERA (304ER/782.1IP) in 127 Major League starts.

Feliz, 24, went 4-2 with a 5.63 ERA (30ER/48IP) in 46 relief appearances with the Astros last season. He’s made 98 Major League appearances in his career, posting a 12-3 record and a 5.13 ERA (69ER/121IP) in parts of three seasons (2015-17) in Houston.

Moran, 25, hit .364 (4x11) with a homer and three RBI in seven games for the Astros in 2017. He had his season interrupted due to facial fractures he suffered after getting hit in the face with a foul ball. After missing almost two months of action, Moran returned to the Major League team in September and appeared in five games prior to the postseason.

Musgrove, 25, went 7-8 with a 4.77 ERA (58ER/109.1IP) in 38 games (15 starts) in what was his second Major League season with the Astros in 2017. He split his year between the rotation and the bullpen, and appeared in seven postseason games for Houston, including four World Series contests.

Martin, 22, split his season between Class A Buies Creek (46g) and Double A Corpus Christi (79g) hitting .278 (132x474) with 18 home runs and 66 RBI in 125 games. Martin was originally an eighth-round pick by the Astros in the 2013 draft.

With the addition of Cole and the removals of Feliz, Moran and Musgrove, the Astros 40-man roster now stands at 38 players.
