Blinn falls to both New Mexico Military and host Tyler to open tournament

TYLER, Texas – Bad passing and mistakes plagued Blinn College volleyball as the Buccaneers lost to both New Mexico Military Institute 3-0 and host Tyler Junior College 3-0 in the Tyler Junior College Tournament Friday afternoon in Tyler.

With the pair of losses, Blinn’s overall record falls to 13-10 and the Region XIV record remains at 4-1.

New Mexico Military 3 – Blinn 0

Mistakes took its toll on Blinn in the opening match as New Mexico Military took the sweep 3-0 by the score 25-20, 25-18 and 25-22.

“We did not pass the ball or serve well,” said Kalie Mader, Blinn head coach. “We gave up a lot of points.”

Both Amina Olajuwon and Britny Mitchell played well in the New Mexico Military and Tyler matches.

Tyler 3 – Blinn 0

Blinn was able to cut down on errors from the New Mexico Military match to the Tyler match but the Buccaneers still lost 3-0 by the score 25-20, 25-18 and 25-22.

All three sets were fairly close for Blinn but it was Tyler coming out on top in all three. The third set was the best for the Buccaneers in scoring 22 points.

“We just have to play much better,” Mader said.

Blinn will finish the Tyler Junior College Tournament with two more matches on Saturday, Oct. 1. The Buccaneers will open with No. 17 Indian Hills Community College at 9 a.m. and then finish with No. 19 Hutchinson Community College at 11 a.m.
