BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -- After the rain delayed the Sunday matchup between the Bombers and Marshals, the Bombers bats stay hot and complete the sweep of the Texas Marshals. The final scores were 6-2 in game 1 and 7-0 in game 2.
The 23rd game of the 2017 season was postponed from Sunday to Monday night with a 5-0 Bombers lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning. In the inning, the Bombers weren't able to convert in the resuming inning, but the pitching picked up the slack.
Cole Pletka took over after solid start from CJ Varela and had a solid "relief" appearance after the postponment. Dayden Lane also had another strong outing in relief and that was enough to hold off a pair of Marshals rallys to win it 6-2.
With the win, the Bombers clinch the TCL first half with a 17-6 overall record and will have home-field advantage in the first-round single-game playoff.
In the second game, the Bombers bats came alive and Ross Bludau did the rest with a complete-game shutout. The Bombers scored 1 in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd, and 4 in the 4th to break things open with a 7-0 score.
The scoring output was much in part to the lineup as a whole having success against a depleated Marshals pitching staff.
Tuesday afternoon the Bombers will travel to Victoria with a 4-game lead over the Acadiana Cane Cutters in the Baylor Scott & White TCL Standings, and are matched up with the 3rd place Generals.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and the pre-game show can be found on Willy 1550 and radioaggieland.com starting at 6:45pm.
