PALESTINE, Texas (KBTX) - There will be no four-peat for the Bremond Tigers. The three-time defending Class 2A Div. 2 state champions fell to the Timpson Bears in the area round, Friday, at Palestine's Westwood High School.
Two trips inside the Timpson 10 yard line without scoring proved to be the back breaker for Bremond. The Tigers fumbled and failed on a fourth down conversion, allowing the Bears to escape unscathed.
Timpson broke the scoring seal late with just over three minutes to play in the second. Jon Grogan hit a wide open Kelan Foster who took it 50 yards for six. The Bears elected to go for two, and converted, with Jordan Osby punching it in on the end-around to go up 8-0.
A 25 yard field goal from Bremond's Gerardo Ponce would pull the Tigers within five at the break. But Bremond was never able to claim the lead. The failed fourth down conversion deep in Bear territory led to six more for Timpson, which took a 14-3 lead and never looked back.
Bremond finishes the season 10-2. Timpson (10-2) will play Grapeland next week.
