Burton prepares to battle Iola in 2A State Volleyball Semifinals

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -- The Burton Volleyball team punched its ticket to the state tournament last Saturday with a three set win over Snook and Wednesday night will take on two time defending state champion Iola in the 2A State Semifinals.

Burton is lead by five seniors who have won 22 of their last 23 matches.

They are on a pretty good roll after starting the season with a 9-10 mark including a 4 set loss to the Lady Bulldogs back in August.

"We have five seniors out of our 8 original girls and they have been playing a long time together and you can definitely tell on the court," said Burton first year head volleyball coach Jessica Parish.

This is Burton's second trip to the state tournament. Back in 2011 the advanced to state for the first time ever and would up losing to Iola in the 1A semifinals in 5 sets.

"My team has the fight and they have the heart and they really want this," concluded Parish.

Burton's semifinal match with Iola is scheduled to get started at 7pm at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland. The winner will face either Crawford or Archer City for the 2A State Championship Thursday at 5:30pm back in Garland.
