CALVERT, Texas -- Classroom Champions, sponsored by American Momentum Bank.
News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, CJ Grimes. The Calvert High School Senior has a 3.3 GPA, and is currently ranked number one in his class.
Ronell Trotter – Teacher
“One word that pops up is determination. He has a lot of determination. He has a lot of zeal about things. He can be very laid back at times as well. But when he's determined to have something taken care of he's going to work to get it done...He's going to work until it gets done actually. So, he has a lot of determination.”
CJ plays football, basketball and runs track for the Calvert Trojans. In football, he was named District 16, Six Man Player of the Year, he was also the Offensive MVP, and he was a 2nd Team All-State honoree as a running back. And in track, CJ was a regional qualifier his sophomore year. Outside of sports, CJ is a member of the National Honor Society, FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), and he's the President of the Student Council and FFA (Future Farmers of America). In his spare time, CJ enjoys riding horses and showing his lambs at the County Fair.
Andre Ross - Coach
“A characteristic that separates him from the other kids, is him leading by example. That's what I think kind of separates CJ from the rest of the kids. You know he's not the type of player to tell you you know, “Hey this is what you should do.” He's the type of player that's going to show you, hey this is how it should be done.
CJ Grimes - Student
“Being a leader comes very easy to me. It's just something I always grew up being. So, it's very easy to me. It's just like putting on a pair of shoes everyday. I really have support at the household. My dad's there to help me, day in day out. On my homework or even if it's working out at night, he's there to help.”
After High School, CJ wants to attend Stephen F. Austin State University or the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and hopes to continue his football career.
Congratulations to CJ Grimes of Calvert High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
