CAMERON, Texas -- Classroom Champions, sponsored by American Momentum Bank.
News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Chandler Barton. The Yoe High School Senior has a 4.0 GPA, and is currently ranked number one in his class.
Corey Cunningham – Teacher
“Well I think Chandler handles the pressure tremendously. Obviously he's been able to stay at the top of his class. He has been with the football team all throughout football season. He's with the soccer team now. So he stays very very involved and very active in his school life. He has great time management skills, and that allows him to balance the student part with the athlete part...Be successful not just at one but at both.”
Chandler plays tennis and soccer for the Yoemen. And he's also a trainer for the football team. Last season, Chandler was named Academic All-District in soccer. Outside of sports, he serves as the President of his school's FFA (Future Farmers of America) chapter, he's a member of the National Honor Society, 4-H, and his church's youth group. In the classroom, Chandler has made the “A” Honor Roll his entire high school career. And he's been a State Qualifier for the Science Fair each year as well.
Kamol Nohe - Coach
“I think he has a goal in mind. I think the biggest thing he has a goal that he wants to obtain. With soccer he wants to get better in the goalkeeping. And I worked with him last year a little bit off and on...But he was a really hard worker; he listened to the final details. And he did a great job last year, and I know this year he's going to even be better.”
Chandler Barton - Student
“The handling the pressure of being both a student and an athlete...You know most of the struggle it's time management. You have to be able to wisely manage your time between practice, and school, and homework and other extracurricular activities. And you know you just have to be able to think about how you're spending your time, and how you can make the most out of your time. So you're never behind in the classroom or missing out on practice or anything like that.”
After High School, Chandler plans on attending Texas A&M University and will major in Finance.
Congratulations to Chandler Barton of Cameron Yoe High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
