CENTERVILLE, Texas - Classroom Champions, presented by American Momentum Bank.

News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Garrett Wager. The Centerville High School Senior has a 3.8 GPA, and is currently ranked number two in his class.

Libby Cannon – Teacher
“In my classroom Garrett is an individual that leads by example. His classmates are always looking to him and modeling after what type of leadership he is. And that is one, more of a silent leader in what he does and how he handles himself and his grades, and how he studies, and how he prepares.”

Garrett was the defensive Captain of the Tiger football team, and he's also a member of the baseball team. In football, Garrett was selected to the Academic All-District Team in 2015. And in baseball, he's back on the field this season as the starting catcher, after missing last year with a torn labrum. Outside of sports, Garrett is a member of the National Honor Society, FFA (Future Farmers of America), and the Future Chamber of Commerce. In his spare time, Garrett volunteers at his church and at the Brazos Valley Food Bank.

Denmond Denman - Coach
“He's never missed a day, and he was hurt and had surgery. And he could've been anywhere in the world working on other things; spending more time doing other things. He was at every practice at every game encouraging the other guys. Even being a leader even he wasn't out there on the field. So, it was great getting him back late at the end of last year, and I'm really looking forward to having him for a complete season.”

Garrett Wager - Student
“Playing on team sports, I think it's important to show others, especially the younger guys how to work. So me, working hard all the time and I'm trying to show them the right way to do things. It's competitive here at Centerville and there a lots of student athletes that are good on the field and in the classroom. So, I do feel honored being a Classroom Champion.”

After High School, Garrett plans on attending Texas A&M University and will major in mechanical engineering.

Congratulations to Garrett Wager of Centerville High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
