Classroom Champion - Kaitlyn Kmiec - October 5, 2017

SOMERVILLE, Texas -- Classroom Champions, presented by American Momentum Bank.

News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Kaitlyn Kmiec. The Somerville High School Senior has a 3.97 GPA, and is currently ranked first in her class.

Russell Bentke – Teacher
“Kaitlyn receiving this award is a great positive thing for our community and Kaitlyn. In the past Kaitlyn had some health issues that she's overcome. And came back this year and has been a perfect model student. Her motivation comes from within. I think she has very good parents, and they may tend to push her a little bit to do the extra, to get the job done on time.”

Darryl Bruffett
Kaitlyn is the Captain for the Volleyball team and Cheerleading squad. And she also plays basketball for the Lady Yeguas. Kaitlyn has received All-District Honorable Mention and Academic All-District for her efforts in volleyball and basketball. She also received All Brazos Valley honors in basketball last season. Outside of sports, Kaitlyn is involved in FFA (Future Farmers of America), FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), 4-H, the Student Council, the Interact Club, and the National Honor Society. In her spare time, Kaitlyn loves playing volleyball, reading, and spending time with her family.

Crystal Martinez - Coach
“Kaitlyn is a little bit of both. At times she can be a vocal leader, but sometimes she can be just a model. And hey lets do this, this is the way we need to do it. So she's a little bit of both, she's a vocal and she models as well.”

Kaitlyn Kmiec - Student
“Being a student athlete, the pressure of it has been pretty hard. Because you have to find the balance between the two. And so far like academics outweigh being an athlete by far. Because if you were to get injured in college or anything you have to have something to fall back on. Your education is the key to success, that's how you're going to get places in life.

After High School, Kaitlyn plans on attending the University of Mary Hardin-Bayor and will major in Nursing.

Congratulations to Kaitlyn Kmiec of Somerville High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
