Classroom Champion - Kalie Poehl - April 26, 2018

MILANO, Texas -- Classroom Champions, sponsored by American Momentum Bank.

News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Kalie Poehl. The Milano High School Senior has a 3.74 GPA, and is currently ranked second in her class.

Cody Wall – Teacher
“What separates Kalie from the rest of the students is really her passion to learn and how self-driven she is. Most of the time, as they're fixing to go off into college, you need students who have a desire to learn and engage fully in the classroom, and want to do the best that they can possibly do.”

Darryl Bruffett
Kalie is a member of the volleyball, softball, and track teams for the Lady Eagles. She's been named 2nd Team All-District and Academic All-District in softball and volleyball. She was a regional qualifier in track her freshman and junior year; and she's also earned 1st Team All-District and All Brazos Valley honors in softball for Milano. Outside of athletics, Kalie assists with community clean-up, and she volunteers for youth sport camps, and vacation bible school at her church.

Amanda Keen - Coach
“She is one that, she doesn't like to settle for second best; she always wants to be on top. I see it in the classroom where she's always wanting to push herself to be the best, to be number one. And then the same thing just kind of spills out on the softball field. She comes out and she works, and she's really trying to make a presence on the field.”

Kalie Poehl - Student
“Handling the pressure between school and sports is definitely a huge one because in sports you miss so much, so much school, and when you come back you just have all this work. But you just have to stay persistent on getting your work done, turning it in, because if you waste it then that's a zero that goes into your GPA. You have to put priorities first.”

After High School, Kalie plans on attending Texas State University and will pursue a degree in Nursing.

Congratulations to Kalie Poehl of Milano High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
