Classroom Champion - Kaylea Walker - February 22, 2018

SNOOK, Texas -- Classroom Champions, presented by American Momentum Bank.

News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Kaylea Walker. The Snook High School Senior has a 3.8 GPA, and is currently ranked number one in her class.

Michelle Bond – Teacher
“One of the characteristics that sets Kaylea apart is the fact that she is that fighter, that risk taker. She can take a weakness and make it one of her strengths. And the whole thing is when she does go out; and she occasionally does fail. She's able to pull herself together and to do it again. And that's different from most students. And you can see that on the court, you can see it in the classroom, you can see that in her everyday life. But she's okay to put herself out there.”

Darryl Bruffett
Kaylea is a member of the Lady Jay basketball and softball teams at Snook. She has been a 1st Team All-Academic Team selection in both sports, the past few seasons. Outside of sports, Kaylea is the Vice-President of her 4-H chapter, she's also a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, HOSA, FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), SPJST, and UIL. And in the classroom, Kaylea has been an Honor Roll student her entire high school career.

Micah Goebel - Coach
“I definitely think Kaylea is a verbal leader. You can always hear her talking. She's encouraging to other teammates. We talk about communication and how good teams are good communicators. Yo can always hear her on the floor...She's almost like another coach out there sometimes.”

Kaylea Walker - Student
“Helping out the community translates to the basketball court, because you learn to help people that you may not know. But, you get that experience of getting to know them and helping them when you don't have to. And coming out here on the basketball court you get to help your teammates. If they are having a day where they just can't do anything right. You know you can go over there and be like, “ I got you, it's going to be ok. I'm here for you!”.

After High School, Kaylea will attend Blinn College, and she will go through their EMT program.

Congratulations to Kaylea Walker of Snook High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
