BRYAN, Texas - Classroom Champions, presented by American Momentum Bank.
News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Luke Martin. The Bryan High School Senior has a 5.08 GPA, and is currently ranked in the top three percent of his class.
Donna Miller – Teacher
“He leads by example. He is absolutely really good as a leader. Like today he came in during lunch for help because he has a Calculus test today and he brought a whole bunch of kids with him. And he'll always have kids around him that he's working with that he'll be helping. Ans so, he's really good just about including other people with what he does and helping them out.”
Luke was a member of the Viking football team this past fall. And is currently helping out the baseball team. In football, Luke was named ELITE Academic All-State by the THSCA. And for his efforts on the diamond, Luke won the Viking Baseball Junior Academic Award in 2016. Outside of sports, Luke is a National Merit Scholar, and he was awarded English Student of the Year, as a sophomore. In his spare time, Luke is involved in his church's youth group and is a counselor at Bryan Viking Football and Baseball camps.
David Powers - Coach
“Sometimes when you a coaches son, his dad Koby Martin, is our assistant coach. You know that can be hard on a kid sometimes to be on the same team with his dad. And some kids would think he'd get preferential treatment but they obviously don't know Coach Martin. Because he's probably harder on his than anybody else you know. But these kids really respect him for what he stands for. And know that anything he gets out here is earned by hard work.”
Luke Martin - Student
“I mean there's no question it's more difficult than if I wasn't an athlete also. Because being an athlete it takes up a lot of your time out here at practices, games... You know road games you don't get in until 12 o'clock and so then having to take care of homework and the classroom too; I mean that's no easy task for any student athlete. But it's something that everybody goes through and we learn how to time management. You know we learn how to do well with that so, you get better at it as it goes on.”
After High School, Luke will attend Texas A&M University's Mays Business School, and will major in business.
Congratulations to Luke Martin of Bryan High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
