COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Classroom Champions, presented by American Momentum Bank.
News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Peter Simmons. The A&M Consolidated High School Senior has a 4.5 GPA, and is currently ranked in the top three percent of his class.
Chad Bronowski – Teacher
“I think Peter handles being a student athlete very well. He challenges himself with the classes. He's not taking the easiest classes the school offers. He's taking the advanced classes and he does very well at it. So, I think he's figured out a way to balance the requirements of being and athlete, as well as being a student.”
Peter is a member of the A&M Consolidated swim team. He is a two-time State Champion in the 100 backstroke and a 3 time District Swimmer of the Year. And last season he also won State in the 100 fly and the 200 medley relay. Outside of sports, Peter is a member of the National Honor Society, Boy Scouts of America, and Tiger Tutors. Peter also, was a USA Swimming Academic All-American for his prowess in the pool.
Ryan Goodwyn - Coach
“He's a very self motivated kid. Theres not a lot having to motivate this kid to do what's right. It's more just pointing him in the right direction and telling him what he needs to do. And then letting him go. He's...Knows very clearly what he wants to do when he grows up. He has very set goals for himself and he works hard to get there.”
Peter Simmons - Student
“I started to learn to lead by example after freshman or sophomore year. At the beginning I was really bossy and I was up in people's faces, and it wasn't as affective. So as the years have progressed Ive become more and more just focused on doing what I can do in the water to...Being the example for others to follow so that they know an example, not just having a boss telling them what to do. Having a leader showing them what to do.”
After High School, Peter will attend Texas A&M University on a swimming scholarship, and he will major in Mechanical Engineering.
Congratulations to Peter Simmons of A&M Consolidated High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
