BRYAN, Texas - Classroom Champions, presented by American Momentum Bank.
News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Rachel Paholek. The Bryan High School Senior has a 5.25 GPA, and is currently ranked number two in her class.
Kim Marshall – Teacher
“In my classroom I think the students as a whole pretty much look up to her, because of the fact that when she comes she has all of her stuff. She's read what she's need to read. She's done her homework. She asks really engaging questions. She'll provide information that maybe she researched that they didn't, because perhaps they didn't do their homework.”
Rachel is a member of the Lady Viking Tennis team. Last season at the Games of Texas, she placed 3rd in Girls Doubles, at the Viking Classic Tournament, she placed 1st in Girls doubles, and she won the Tennis Coaches Award for her Dedication and Leadership. Outside of sports. Rachel is the Vice President of Mu Alpha Theta, a member of the Student Council, the National Honor Society, UIL and the United Way. She is also a National Commended Merit Scholar and she is in the IB Diploma Program (International Baccalaureate).
Randy Stewart - Coach
“The biggest thing for her representation is that all the freshman now know that hey you can study, and be worried about your studies, and you can still be a good athlete. She just takes it in stride and does the workout; after she does the workout then you go home and study. Probably burns a little bit of midnight oil. But it gives the kids, the younger kids especially, an opportunity to look and say hey, I can do both academics and tennis.”
Rachel Paholek - Student
“I see myself more as a leader by example. Just by how, when practicing I think of my underclassmen and how I practice hard to set an example for them. So that they can keep building our tennis program. I practice hard and try hard in every match for them, because my success goes along with their success and I like to see my team succeed.”
After High School, Rachel plans on attending college and she will major in business.
Congratulations to Rachel Paholek of Bryan High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
