JEWETT, Texas - Classroom Champions, presented by American Momentum Bank.

News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Toryn Cox. The Leon High School Senior has a 4.0 GPA, and is currently ranked third in her class.

Malynda Watson – Teacher
“I think she leads by example. In the classroom she's always willing to help other students and shows them that they need to get their assignments in, they need to do good on their tests and study. And a lot of them go to her and ask her questions if they need help on stuff. And she's there to hep them, so their really receptive to her leadership role in class.”

Toryn was the Captain of the Lady Cougar volleyball team and a is member of the tennis team. In volleyball, Toryn was a State Champion in 2015, a Academic All-State and 1st Team All-State Tournament selection, and a TSWA 3-A All-State selection as a setter. And in tennis, she was named 1st All-District, and Academic All-District. Outside of sports Toryn is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, 4-H, UIL, and FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). And in her spare time, Toryn helps coaches at volleyball camps in Jewett.

Jason Evans - Coach
“Toryn, she handles pressure extremely well. On the court, of the court, I the classroom, out of the classroom. It's a challenge for her and she rises up and makes the good grades, performs on the court and leads us to victory. And she's just a true champion.”

Toryn Cox - Student
“Being a leader can sometimes be difficult. It depends on the situation your in. It's really easy if your peers or teammates are really receptive but sometimes it can be difficult if their not. And that can just be what their used to and how they accept things. But, being a leader is really important if you try to help motivate others to be the best they can be, and the best they need to do and want to do. You know you have to step up and be a leader if no one else wants to be that way.”

After High School, Toryn will attend the University of Arkansas at Monticello to play volleyball. And she will major in Education, in hopes to one day become a coach and teacher.

Congratulations to Toryn Cox of Leon High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
