Classroom Champion - Nathan McCoslin - September 21, 2017

JEWETT, Texas -- Classroom Champions, presented by American Momentum Bank.

News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Nathan McCoslin. The Leon High School Senior has a 3.9 GPA, and is currently ranked first in his class.

Stan Standly – Teacher
“He enjoys being a scholar, as much as being an athlete. His commitment to athletics is because he refuses to let his classmates down, his team down, the coaches down. He realizes he may not be one of the most talented athletically, but he refuses to stop working. Because he understands the importance of team and that the team comes first.

Darryl Bruffett
Nathan plays linebacker and wide receiver for the Cougars. He is a Co-Captain for the football team, and he also plays baseball for the Cougars. Outside of sports, Nathan is a member of the Speech and debate team, Band, One-Act Play, FFA (Future Farmers of America) Speaking and the UIL Math and Science Teams. In speech and debate, Nathan was the Lincoln-Douglass UIL State Champion and he was also a State Qualifier in UIL Persuasive Speaking. In his spare time, Nathan helps out at his church and works the concession stand at Little League baseball games.

Jeremy Colvert - Coach
“I wouldn't exactly call Nathan a vocal leader, but he's one that leads because everybody can rely on him. That's why he leads. He actually was selected as a football captain this year. And we made a big presentation about hey, make sure that it's someone you want in that foxhole with you, when the time comes. And the team elected him as one of those guys. So they know that he has their back and they know they cam rely on him for anything. So that's the kind o leader that he is.

Nathan McCoslin - Student
“I have a personal desire to be the best that I can in everything that I do. I really don't like losing I'm very competitive so I always strive to be successful in everything that I do. And my parents have always put high expectations on me and I hate to let them down. So that drives me to be successful, because I want to be able to meet those expectations that my parents have.

After High School, Nathan plans on attending college and majoring in Political Science.

Congratulations to Nathan McCoslin of Leon High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
