College Station battling unbeaten McCallum with trip to state on line

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -- The College Station Cougars (12-2) will take on the Austin McCallum Knights (14-0) in a Class 5A Division II state semifinal game Saturday night at 7pm at NRG Stadium in Houston.

The Cougars know what it feels like not to punch their ticket to state after last year's semifinal setback to Corpus Christi Cal Allen 31-30.

This year they will take on a Knights team that beat Cal Allen 20-7 to stay unbeaten on the year.

While Cougar Head Coach Steve Huff knows McCallum is as good as their record, his team has a grit to em he admires.

"I appreciate how they didn't bat an eye and just continued to play," said Huff. "We told them at halftime to keep chasing the ball and eventually good things are going to happen, but keep running and keep playing hard and that's what they did. They are 14 and oh for a reason. That's a very good football team," concluded Huff.

A year ago College Station suffered their only loss of the season in the state semis and would like for McCallum to experience that same feeling following Saturday's game down in Houston.

Semifinal tickets will be sold in the CSHS Field House Ticket Office on Friday from 7:30 am until 1:30 pm. Pre-sale ticket prices are $6 students and $11 adults. All tickets bought at the gate are $15.
