BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -- The College Station football team will take on Aledo Saturday morning at 11:00am in the Class 5A Division 2 State Championship game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest.
It will be the first time the Cougars have played for a state title in football. Aledo has won seven state championships. Since 2009 the Bearcats have won six state titles. The Aledo program has been a model of consistency. College Station head coach Steve Huff said, "You look at 5A teams that you probably want to maybe mimic your program after, like a model for a program I think Aledo would be one of those programs you would say is like that." Huff added, "When we first opened up we talked a lot as coaches about some of the programs Austin Westlake, Southlake Carroll and looking at groups like that and Aledo was another one of them that has such great tradition and how to do it year in and year out so you try to model yourself after some of those people."
Last year Aledo beat Corpus Christi Calallen in the state title game. Calallen ended College Station's season the week before in the state semifinals.
