FRISCO, Texas – Sam Houston State senior Camry Grigsby and Central Arkansas junior Logan Morton are the Southland Conference Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. Southland Athletes of the Week are presented by UniversalCoin.com.
Central Arkansas has concluded its regular season slate and next heads to Birmingham, Ala., for the 2018 Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships from Feb. 21-22. The Bearkats close out their season this weekend on Friday and Saturday, sending competitors to both the Howie Ryan Invitational in Houston and Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque.
Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week – Camry Grigsby, Sam Houston State – Sr. – DeSoto, Texas
In the women’s 800m run at the Texas Tech Open, Grigsby took the top spot, turning in a time of 2:12.15, edging Arkansas freshman Ruth Wiggins by nearly a full second. She was also part of the women’s 4x400m relay team along with Teona Spivey, Kenaysia Dixon and Kodii Church that was nearly six seconds quicker than the rest of the field in claiming the event crown with a time of 3:47.46.

Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week – Logan Morton, Central Arkansas – Jr. – Cedarville, Ark.
Morton scored in two events at the Southern Illinois Invitational, including the best Southland distance of the weekend in the long jump to finish third among 33 competitors with a mark of 19-03.25. She also registered an eighth-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 36-08.25.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on at least 25 percent of ballots.
