BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -- The Rattlers look to get back on track with a more experienced squad in 2017.
Head coach Patrick Goodman welcomes back eight starters on offense and five on defense, along with 1st-team all-district kicker Luis Baeza. Four of those offensive starters are on the line, the area Goodman pinpoints as his teams biggest strength. One is sophomore and Texas A&M commit Jordan Jefferson, who was the District Newcomer of the Year as a freshman. Goodman says, “Senior leadership is very important to us having a successful season. Jackson and Walker are explosive players and they must make big plays. Malek is the quarterback and that is the most important position on the field. Alvarado must be a leader on our experienced offensive line.”
The defense will lean on linemen Tyrek Houston and Jaycob Steels. “These guys must anchor the d-line and they have a chance to be very special players,” according to Goodman.
The Rattlers will face that same very tough non-district schedule they did not break into the win column against last season, including 5A schools Magnolia West, Waller, and Bryan, 4A Division I state quarterfinalist Stafford, and 3A power Franklin. “I am looking forward to this season because I feel our off-season went well and we are stronger than last year,” said Goodman. “Our entire schedule is tough and we must play one game at a time. I am looking forward to the Franklin game because it is a very good program and we need to start the season with a win.”
