IOLA, Texas (KBTX) -- The two-time defending 2A state champion Iola Lady Bulldogs are headed to the state volleyball tournament for the fourth time in a row and 11th time overall.

Iola has won 38 of their 40 matches this season and will face Burton Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland.

Head coach Jamie McDougald says the trip to state is as exciting as ever. "No of course it never gets old. We are very excited. This is one year we weren't very sure what would happen when the year started because we graduated a lot of our power, but thankfully these girls have worked really hard and never give up. It's been a scratch and claw trying to get here but we're very proud that we made it."

Her players agree. Senior Maggie Webb said, "It's pretty exciting every year that we go to state, or have gotten to go to state. It's a pretty big honor too so the excitement doesn't really fade each year."

"It's honestly one of the best feelings. It's really indescribable. It's just awesome," added senior Jessika Fairbanks.

Senior Allie Johnson said, "It's still exciting but there's a lot of pressure. Like the two years before there's a lot of pressure. Lot of stress. We've just got ot keep focusing on playing. It's exciting but it's stressful."

Hard not to be a bit stressful when you have the target on your backs as defending champs. The Lady Bulldogs and Burton Panthers meet for the second time this season Wednesday at 7. Iola beat Burton in four sets back on August 15.
