BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -- With the 2016-17 school year winding down KBTX Media and American Momentum Bank honored this seasons Classroom Champions during a banquet Wednesday evening at Christopher's World Grille.
KBTX General Manager Mike Wright along with Frank Varisco, Marketing President Bryan/College Station American Momentum Bank, congratulated the Classroom Champions along with their guests on their accomplishments during their high school careers and shared some words of encouragement.
Former Texas A&M Quarter and Dallas Cowboy signal caller Stephen McGee was this year's guest speaker. Stephen joked and said he remembered being 18 years old once upon a time and would make his message simple. He only had one point he wanted to make and that was to understand why it is more important to have a 'why' in your life, than a 'what'.
"To have purpose in your life you have to have a powerful 'why'. 'Why' you do what you do is more important than 'what' you do. The 'what' in life will disappear one day. You're going to be old and bald like I am. You're not always going to be a 'full head of hair young guy' like we were. We're not going to be able to run well. We're going to pull hamstrings every time in a slow pitch softball game. So all that stuff is fleeting. But if you have a powerful 'why' in your life and a purpose to glorify the Lord, love the Lord, love your family, those things will be with you forever and that leaves a legacy for not just you, but your family members one day," said McGee during the banquet.
29 of the 33 Classroom Champions were in attendance and received a plaque and commemorative DVD of their Classroom Champions segment that aired on the news over the past nine months.
To date, KBTX Media has crowned 738 Classroom Champions dating back to September 1995.
