COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - No. 22 Texas A&M opens their sixth season of SEC play at the defending National Champions, No. 4 South Carolina. The Aggies are 5-0 in SEC openers.
The game is televised on SEC Network, with Cara Capuano and Debbie Antonelli on the call. Authenticated subscribers can also access the stream of the game on their computers, mobile phones, tablets, smart TVs and other connected devices through WatchESPN and the ESPN app. Tom Turbiville and Steve Miller bring listeners the call on KWBC 1550 AM in Bryan-College Station, and on the web at 12thMan.com.
The Aggies and Gamecocks have met seven times, all since the Aggies joined the SEC in 2012-13, with South Carolina owning a 4-3 edge in the series, and five of the seven games being decided by nine or fewer points. The last time Texas A&M visited Colonial Life Arena, the Aggies tied the game at 58 with 2.0 seconds to play, after a length-of-the-floor baseball-style pass from Taylor Cooper to Chelsea Jennings, before an foul by the Aggies sent South Carolina to the line to make a game-winning free throw.
The Aggies have won both of their road games this season, with the NCAA’s freshman scoring leader, Chennedy Carter, averaging a robust 38.0 points per game on the road. Carter has scored at least 20 points in six of her 14 games, helping the Aggies to an 11-3 non-conference season.
South Carolina has won 22 of 23 games, dating back to their 80-64 win in College Station last season. A’ja Wilson, who was Most Outstanding Player of the 2017 Women’s Final Four, leads the Gamecocks with 24.5 points per game and 10.8 rebounds per game.
After this game, the Aggies return home to host Kentucky on January 4 at 6 p.m., with television coverage slated for SEC Network.
