FRANKLIN, Texas (KBTX) -- Franklin held off Rockdale 37-34 to win the 10-3A Division I championship on their home field Friday night.
Jared Pedraza rushed for four touchdowns to lead the Lions, who also got a scoring run by quarterback Datron Dixon.
Pedraza said, "It's really amazing. We went 2-2 in the preseason, it was very disappointing for us. We thought we should be undefeated so we came together as a family and we just ended up as district champs. I'm really proud of everybody."
"It's unbelievable," added senior lineman Casey Phillips. "We didn't have a whole lot of people think that we were going to be able to do it this year because of what we lost last year and the young kids that moved up. As a team I can't think of anything else we could have done better this year."
The game was tied 21-21 at the half and Rockdale led 27-24 after three quarters, but the Lions went ahead to stay on Pedraza's fourth touchdown run of the night.
Dixon's score made it 37-27 Lions, but Rockdale answered with a 33-yard Torry Locklin to Quentin Hughes score to pull within 37-34.
Rockdale recovered an onside kick, but could not score again as Jaquayln Crawford was stopped on 4th and one.
Franklin improved to 7-2, 5-0 and will finish the season at Academy.
Rockdale (6-3, 4-1) will host Jarrell.
