Rockdale to battle Yoakum in 3A DI Semifinals Friday

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -- The Rockdale Tigers (11-3) will take on Yoakum Bulldogs (13-1) Friday evening at 7pm at the Berry Center in Cypress.

Rockdale is chasing its first state championship since 1976.

After starting the season 1-2 the Tigers have won 10 of their last 11 games including playoff wins over Malakoff, Woodville, West and last week beating Teague 42-20.

Friday they will take on a 1 loss Yoakum team that will be the best Rockdale has faced this year.

One of the keys to the Tigers deep playoff run has been a talented team that has 22 seniors on it.

"We're a very mature group of kids and they've played a bunch of football. We haven't been in the semifinals, but over the last four or five years we've played a whole bunch of ball games," said Rockdale Head Coach Jeff Miller.

"Being in big games is certainly nothing new to us. We've won four playoff games against really good football teams. We haven't had a push over yet," concluded Miller.

"We've played real well the second half. We've had to depend on our defense a lot, but when the plays need to be made we make em whether it's offense or defense or special teams. We just come together and play as a unit during this playoff run," added Rockdale Wide Receiver Jaquayln Crawford.
