COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas A&M senior Cason Sherrod was one of 52 pitchers named to the watch list for the 14th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award, the organization announced Monday.
The NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award is given annually to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball.
Sherrod is coming of a junior campaign in which he posted a 4-1 record with four saves, a 2.89 ERA and a .203 opponent batting average. He made 30 appearances on the season, striking out 38 in 43.2 innings.
The right-hander was selected in the 13th round by the Kansas City Royals in the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft in June.
For his career, the Dallas, Texas, native is 5-1 with five saves, a 3.34 ERA and a .209 opponent batting average. He has 58 career strikeouts in 64.2 innings.
The SEC led all leagues with eight players listed among the 52.
The Maroon and White commence the 2018 season on February 16-18 when they host the Rhode Island Rams in a three-game series on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
