COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Basketball season is just around the corner and fans will get their first chance to meet and interact with the 2017-18 Texas A&M men's and women's basketball teams during Maroon Madness, presented by Pepsi, which takes place inside Reed Arena on Thursday, October 26 from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Doors open for the Pepsi Fan Zone starting at 6:30 p.m.
Featured at the event, which is free to attend, will be introductions of both Aggie teams, a dunk contest featuring the top athletes on the men's squad judged by the women's team, a 3-point shootout between members of both teams, and a performance by Acrodunk from America's Got Talent.
The event features many fan-friendly events and giveaways. The Pepsi Fan Zone, which runs courtside from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m., includes a virtual reality display, free food and drink and activities for fans young and old.
In the Pepsi Fan Zone, fans will have the opportunity to take a selfie with the men's 2016 SEC Championship trophy, the women's 2011 National Championship trophy and player cutouts. Younger fans can take advantage of inflatables and several other family-friendly activities presented by the Junior Aggie Club. In addition, complimentary food and beverages, including drinks from Pepsi, Philly Cheesesteaks from Blake’s Steaks, pizza rolls and chicken fingers.
The first 100 fans receive cell phone card holders, the first 250 fans in attendance receive Texas A&M hoop hats, the first 1,000 fans receive Maroon Madness t-shirts, courtesy of Pepsi, and the first 5,000 fans receive Whataburger coupons. One lucky fan will have the chance to win $50,000 should they complete a progressive shooting challenge, presented by C.C. Creations.
Additionally, 12th Man Shop will be selling Aggie gear and merchandise on the arena floor in the fan zone.
Each Aggie team takes the court for a brief intra-squad scrimmage during the event where spectators will get their first look at the Aggies on the hardwood. Fans will also be treated to performances by the Aggie Dance Team and Hullabaloo band. A variety of contests for students are planned, highlighted by both the Aggie men's and women's programs offering a VIP experience to travel with the team for a road game this season.
Prior to the activities inside the area, the Reed Rowdies will put on a tailgate with free food and drinks at the facility's north entrance which is open to all students with an accompanying DJ.
