Bryan-College Station, Texas (April 21, 2017)- The Brazos Valley Bombers are excited to announce that they have added three right-handed arms to the roster. Seth Oliver, CJ Varela and Reid Morgan will all be in their first season with the Bombers.
Seth Oliver stands in at 6’4’ and is pitching at Texas Southern. The junior has started nine games this season and has accumulated a 4-3 record with a 4.00 ERA. Oliver has pitched 63 innings, striking out 56 batters and allowed an opposing batting average of .247. The Houston, Texas product has been especially productive in conference play as he has a 4-1 record with a 3.25 ERA. Oliver has averaged a strikeout an inning and has picked-off two runners.
CJ Varela and Reid Morgan are both in their freshman season at Oklahoma State.
CJ Varela has appeared in seven games for the Cowboys, starting two. Varela is 2-0 on the season with a 3.31 ERA in 16 innings. Varela has 16 strikeouts, a save, and opposing batters are hitting just .224 against the righty. The longest outing for Varela was also his first start and win of his career as he went five innings against Wichita State, allowing just three hits and no runs with four strikeouts.
Reid Morgan has appeared in two games and struck out two in two innings. The Richmond, Texas native missed his senior season in high school due to Tommy John surgery. He was an all-district performer in the season prior to Tommy John and compiled a 10-2 record with a 1.43 ERA.
