BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -- The Bryan Vikings saw their playoff dreams essentially come to an end Friday night with a 41-21 loss to the Waco Lions at Merrill Green Stadium.
Waco made the opening statement with a one yard touchdown plunge courtesy of Terrance Hamilton and raced out to a 13-7 second quarter. But the Vikings would claw their way back.
Midway through the second, Kerry Brooks will go to the air and find Keyfon Hornes for the 20 yard touchdown. The extra point would give the Vikings their first lead of the game, 14-13.
Waco would take the lead back with five ticks of the clock left in the first half. Hamilton again found pay-dirt from short range and the Lions headed into the break leading 20-14.
Bryan would fight right back in the third. Brooks capped a long, methodical possession with a quick three yard strike to his tight end Alex Young to even the game at 20. The PAT would give the Vikings a 21-20 advantage.
Waco was relentless, though. The Lions would go to the air late in the third for the go ahead score. Jaylen Harris found Quinn Williams for the 40 yard touchdown to put the Lions up 26-20.
The pair would pack on more points early in the fourth, turning a Bryan turnover into six with a 35 yard touchdown completion to give Waco a 34-21 lead. The Lions would add another insurance score and leave Merrill Green 41-21 winners.
Waco (5-4, 2-3) will face in-town rival, University. Bryan (3-5, 1-3) will road trip to Temple.
