When you come across the Leona General Store it doesn't look like much is going on. But if you take a closer look, you can see the smoke signal that seems to attract folks from all over.
As the coals get fired up for a night of cooking, the line at the door starts to form.
And when 5:30 p.m. hits, get out of the way.
"Well it's kind of like being a pastor of church, you never know if anybody is going to show up. You're kind of surprised when they do," joked owner Jerry House.
House has owned the General Store known for its sizzling steaks since 1998 and the former Methodist minister knows what he's talking about.
Over the past decade the store has turned into a very successful restaurant thanks to a simple meaty method of business.
"When somebody comes in here and gets a 10 ounce steak, they're shocked at the size of it," said House.
Steaks are the store's specialty. Hand cut rib-eyes, grilled on a fire pit, and served up with side of sinful potatoes.
"We believe that the customer is always right. Fortunately we don't have that many complaints," joked House.
It's nothing fancy, just a good ol' Texas steak dinner, but it brings in the herd.
"I'm a steak eating rascal you know," said Joe Nanny.
Nanny comes from Teague each and every week to get his canines in on a little meatastic dinner.
"I can't even buy anything like this in Teague. Even at the grocery store," said Nanny.
"We have to come to Texas for a good steak," said Katherone Thomas.
Thomas has to travel a little further for her sizzler. Turns out Australia doesn't have the steaks we do here in the Lone Star State.
"We used to have to steaks like this but I think they send all of our good steaks off to Japan," said Thomas with a laugh.
Now when it comes to ordering at the Leona Steakhouse, it's actually pretty easy. There's no menu. You just tell them what kind of meat you want, how you want it cooked, and voilà.
"We didn't want to get in the business of having a menu that had 95 items on it," said House.
So Jerry kept it simple and the equation has paid off.
"Our goal was to have the population of Leona, which is 170 something over the entire weekend. We're disappointed if we don't have the population of Leona in one night," said House.

The Leona General Store is only open on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday night is designated as Fish Fry night while Friday and Saturday are steak nights. But fish, chicken, and pork are also served.
And the steakhouse is BYOB so if you want a glass of wine or cold lone star, you're more than welcome to bring that with you.
