A&M Consolidated High School’s Tiger Robotics Team recently won first place in the Southeast Texas Boosting, Engineering, Science and Technology (BEST) robotics competition.

By winning the competition, the team earned a trip to the state competition on November 9-10 at University of Texas at Dallas, where they will compete against 60 other teams from the states of Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.

In addition to Consol’s performance, other CSISD teams also placed in the competition. College Station Middle School placed third and A&M Consolidated Middle School placed fourth out of the 20 competing teams.

BEST is a national robotics competition in which high school and middle school students design, build, and market a fully-functional robot in six weeks. This year, students had to build a robot that could transport cargo from the ground up a ten foot pole to a storage area, which represented a space elevator.

Teams are judged on their effective use of an engineering process and marketing strategy. Teams create a marketing booth, give an oral presentation, write and project engineering notebook, and display spirit and sportsmanship.
