The Texas Forest Service has certainly had a busy year, but it's members are being recognized for its efforts.
The College Station-based agency was honored with a Government Excellence Award in Washington, DC this week.
The Homeland Security Awards recognized the forest service, the Bastrop County Unified Command, and others who worked to put out the Bastrop wildfire.
The award they received was for "most notable emergency response implementation by a federal, state or local entity."
