Teachers on 12 Bryan ISD campuses received an early Valentine’s Day treat on Feb. 10 as the BISD Education Foundation Prize Patrol surprised them with the news that they were receiving cash awards through the Grants To Teachers program.
Over $35,000 representing 28 grants was handed out by members of the Foundation’s Board of Directors.
The Foundation grants provide funding, not otherwise available, for projects which have a potential to enhance the learning process.
Some of the projects funded included laptops for counselors on four secondary campuses, enabling them to have an "office-on-the-go" to better serve students, curriculum materials to boost math, science and reading skills at the elementary level, a campus garden, and digital cameras for art classrooms.
Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded more than $300,000 to teachers to implement classroom projects, more than $300,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors, and more than $100,000 for district projects.
